Crocheted Socks are hot, hot, hot! And crocheting your own socks is in! Yarn companies are clamoring to meet the growing demand by producing an ever-increasing range of colors, stvles, and types of yarns just for socks. A visit to your local yarn shop is like a visit to wonderland. Yarn choices range from solid colors, self-striping, and confetti or dot with splashes of color, to allover colorways, Fair Isle or jacquard patterning, and stretchy elastic. By combining different yarns and stitch patterns, you can crochet socks that are conservative, fun and frivolous, or a work of art. And now you can even buy clear plastic boots and clogs just to display your fashionably clad feet and show off your favorite pair of socks.
When Mary Jane and I began working together to design crocheted socks, we wanted to bring the shaping used for knit socks and the beautiful stitch patterns of crochet together to create comfortable stylish, and great-fitting socks for crocheters. What started out as a pet project soon became an addiction. Now when we see a ball of yarn, the first thing we think about is whether it will make a good pair of socks.
The sock patterns in this book were designed for the crocheter who has some knowledge of and experience with basic crochet stitches. In order to pack many patterns into a limited amount of space, we have not provided illustrations or instructions for the basic crochet stitches. If you are unfamiliar with these stitches or a stitch in this book that is not followed by illustrated instructions, we suggest that you refer to your favorite crochet reference guide to help you make your socks.
Creating the socks for this book was a lot of fun. We hope you get as much enjoyment from crocheting our socks as we had in designing them.
