WHILE WORKING as a registered nurse in 1987, Nancie opened a yarn shop, Nancie Knits, in Sacramento, California. While running the store, Nancie began to teach classes locally and nationwide. Teaching led to the start of her video-production company, Wisewater Productions, and the success of seven knitting videos to date. Nancie has written patterns and designed for Interweave Knits, Knitter's Magazine, and Piecework Magazine. In the fall of 1997, Nancie was the consultant for "Knitting 101," an article in Martha Stewart Living. Nancie's first book, Lace from the Attic, started her on a path of historical research into all types of lace, including tatting, crochet, and bobbin lace. Her second book was Knitted Shawls, Stoles, and Scarves (Martingale & Company, 2001). Knitted Sweaters for Every Season (Martingale & Company, 2002), Nancie's third book, was based on the techniques in the shawl book. Nancie lives in Coupeville, Washington, with her husband, Bill Attwater, and their two dogs, Christina and Amber. |
