Daily Devotionals by Ardith Keef

When you give advice to others, it can be a ministry of death.
There is not much in the Christian world more uncomfortable than someone who has all the answers for everyone else. For example, if someone confesses discouragement, the Holy Spirit can and will encourage that person through another, but if the "encourager" rushes in with all the right answers, the discouraged one will be even more crippled.
It seems to me that many are eager to declare things the way they ought to be, but that just sprays emptiness over the listener. The presumption is, the listener doesn't know anything, and the knowledge of how it "should" be will fix it all.
A word from the Lord is encouraging, but a word from the human mind is another stone around the neck of the hurting one.
If you haven't been asked, you'd better be careful about giving the answer! And if you are going to speak, ask the Lord "what is really going on here?" and wait for the Lord to fill your mouth!
