The experience
of the Living Lord within is not unleashed by a feeling of craving.
The experience is unleashed by
the kind of desire that reveals itself in choices. Many Christians today are convinced that there must be an ongoing experience that is felt in order to live the Christian life faithfully. How could that possibly be? that would put following the Lord in the same category as human emotion. We experience the Lord when we obey. Obedience is the choice to walk in the light we have. As the Psalmist said "Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. . .", meaning that there is concrete information that allows a wise choice for the next move. I must brush my teeth each day, but I must say, it is not an emotional experience. Yet, I choose to do it, because the alternative is blatantly foolish. May Christians are looking for a feeling that will make obedience pleasant to the flesh. Women are often used to living by their emotions, and great caution must be taken in churches to make sure that leaders of women really hold God's authority. A woman who is appointed to leadership by God will not live by emotions, and the women around her and under her teaching will be more and more released from bondage to emotions, as the years go by. We must obey God's Word and govern the thought life. If we are so commanded, then it must be possible. Avoid those who would stimulate with the spectacular and manipulate by fear. We don't pray because we feel prayer energy. we don't witness because we feel charismatic. We don't study the word because we feel scholarly. We trust and obey - for there's no other way! |
